Instant Pot Applesauce

I hate to admit this but it took us two years of applesauce purchasing to make us realize how much money and food we were wasting on the “easy way”. Like clockwork, we’d head to Costco every other week and grab a box of berry-flavored squeeze-pouched applesauce and think nothing of it. After all, it was only $10 and Kaya loved them.

I had my “DUH!” moment when my Dad visited us one weekend. He brought a family sized bag of apples with him. We quickly got into a discussion about the price of the huge bag.

“Only about $5/bag”, he said. Cue “Duh!” moment.

A couple of weeks go by and Kaya runs out of her applesauce pouches. We’ve gotten to the point where we weren’t really interested in eating the apples whole any more. Finally I decided to give homemade applesauce a whirl. What did I have to lose?

Because we just received an Instant Pot for a wedding gift, we wanted to put it to use again. I cut the apple from the core and put all six in the Instant Pot with about half a cup of water and Pumpkin Spice.

After throwing all of the ingredients in the Instant Pot, press High Pressure and set for 8 minutes. After 8 minutes is up, let the pot naturally de-pressurize. Use an immersion blender, food processor, blender, potato masher or fork to mash up the cooked apples into applesauce. I love the variety you get from using an immersion blender.
